Tesla announces the new Model 3 Highland

Tesla Model 3 “Highland”– This is Tesla code for a facelift version, and it is probably overdue since this car was launched in 2016.  The outgoing model went on to become a huge seller and was the leading worldwide selling electric car for 3 years in a row until it was knocked off top spot by the Tesla Model Y SUV.

First deliveries of the new 2024 Tesla Model 3 will be from January to March 2024 although no Performance edition will be available from launch, if you compare this to the Model Y launch we saw the Performance models arrive around 8 months after the initial car was released, so expect similar time frame.

True to form the inside cabin remains minimalist, it’s actually clever cost saving by Tesla and ensures their cars are at attractive price points. The most noticeable change for the driver is the removal of the Mercedes Benz supplied indicator stalks, with the indicators and front wipers now integrated within the steering wheel….some may not like this, but over time we are sure all will get familiar with it.

Ventilated front seats, customisable ambient lighting, higher grade materials, give the new car a more premium feel for driver and passengers. But the new introduction of a 8.0 inch display in the rear is going to make those kids and adult rear seat passengers happy….this could be a huge USP for Tesla, especially with its infotainment functions….kids on Kids YouTube and Netflix! The current 15.4 inch touchscreen display remains in the front with even more functionality.

So sharper looks, longer range, a quitter ride with the addition of acoustic glass and of course more internal technology (we love the rear passenger display screen addition) this car will once again be a hit.  Tesla is pretty good at customer retention, so we expect current Model 3 owners to possibly go for the new 2024 Model 3 (or possibly the Model Y if they want even more space).

UK pricing and official performance data have yet to be released but we expect a similar price point to the current Model 3.   The entry RWD model is reported to have an improved range of 318 miles (WLTP) whilst the Long Range AWD has a reported improved range of 391 miles (WLTP), so both are exceptional product offerings all drivers.

Tesla product remains our biggest seller, mainly on business contract hire leases although this year we have seen more personal contract hire and business contract purchase transactions on both the Model 3 and the Model Y.  The reason is we can check all rates against not just 1, but 11 funders so we do see a difference in rentals between each funder every quarter, hence our customers can get the best deal at the point of order.
