Tesla Model Y Gets a Makeover: What You Need to Know About the 2025 Refresh
Posted On By Every Vehicle Lease

Tesla's most popular electric vehicle, the Model Y, is getting a significant update. Officially dubbed 'Juniper,' the refreshed Model Y promises exciting design improvements, advanced technology, and enhanced performance. This update comes just after the reveal of the updated Model 3 Highland, further solidifying Tesla's commitment to the future of sustainable transportation. The new Model Y is expected to begin deliveries in May 2025, with the Chinese market being the first to receive the updated model. But what exactly does the 2025 Model Y have to offer? Let’s dive into the details!

A Fresh Exterior Look for Tesla’s Best-Seller

Tesla’s design team has given the Model Y a makeover, focusing on both aesthetics and functionality. The exterior now boasts refined features that improve aerodynamics, efficiency, and overall visual appeal.

Sleek New Lighting Design

One of the most noticeable changes is the new light signature. The front and rear light bars have been redesigned for a more modern look. A full-width light bar now connects the taillights, similar to the upcoming Cybertruck, creating a more futuristic and premium appearance. The headlights have also been redesigned, further enhancing the Model Y’s road presence and visibility.

Aerodynamic Enhancements

Tesla is known for pushing the envelope in terms of vehicle efficiency, and the refreshed Model Y is no exception. Although official figures are yet to be revealed, we can expect a reduction in drag, similar to the improvements made in the updated Model 3. With a focus on reducing aerodynamic drag, the Model Y will continue to lead the way in electric vehicle efficiency, especially for an SUV.

Interior Comfort and Technology Upgrades

The 2025 Model Y is not only about looks; it’s about improving the driving experience with cutting-edge technology and enhanced comfort.

Premium Cabin Features

Inside, the new Model Y boasts a refined interior with a focus on comfort and convenience. The cabin includes new ambient lighting, ventilated seats, and a larger 15.4-inch touchscreen for better control and connectivity. Tesla has added invisible speakers and acoustic glass to reduce noise and enhance sound quality. The second-row seats now feature power-recline functionality, and an 8-inch rear entertainment screen adds extra comfort for passengers.

Tech and Comfort Upgrades

The new Model Y offers additional features that cater to passenger comfort and convenience. The ventilated seats are a welcome addition, particularly for long trips. The Performance variant also includes sportier seats with extra bolstering for dynamic driving support. The center console has also been redesigned with wireless phone chargers, new storage solutions, and updated controls.

Enhanced Rear Passenger Experience

Rear passengers will also benefit from the new features, with an 8-inch touchscreen allowing them to control climate settings and entertainment. The seats now recline electrically and fold flat to provide more flexibility for cargo space. Additionally, Bluetooth connectivity ensures seamless device integration, keeping passengers entertained on the go.

Performance and Range: Power Meets Precision

Performance has always been a hallmark of the Model Y, and the 2025 refresh continues this tradition with enhancements to handling and driving dynamics.

Suspension and Handling Refinements

The Model Y’s suspension system has been retuned to deliver a smoother, more refined driving experience. Tesla has focused on improving ride quality, with the goal of providing more responsive handling and a more comfortable ride overall. Improved steering calibration and reduced road noise contribute to a more engaging and controlled driving experience.

Improved Range Options

For those concerned about range, the new Model Y doesn’t disappoint. The base Rear-Wheel Drive model offers a WLTP-estimated range of 289 miles, with a 0-60mph acceleration time of 5.9 seconds. For those who want more power and a longer range, the Long Range All-Wheel Drive variant is the way to go. It offers an impressive 342 miles of estimated range and accelerates from 0-60mph in just 4.3 seconds.

Colour Choices and Dimensions

The new Model Y will be available in five exciting color options: Stealth Grey, Pearl White Multi-Coat, Quicksilver, Ultra Red, and the new Glacier Blue. The usual black or white interior options remain as well as 2 wheel options.

The vehicle’s dimensions have been slightly adjusted, with the overall length increasing to 4,797 mm (up from 4,751 mm), providing more space, particularly for the 7-seat configuration. The width and height remain largely the same, at 1,921 mm and 1,624 mm respectively.

Production and Delivery Timeline

The new Model Y is set to begin deliveries in May 2025, with China being the first market to receive the updated model. As is typical with Tesla, the release dates for other regions, including the UK, will follow a staggered timeline. More details about the UK release will likely be shared closer to the launch.

Available Variants

The refreshed Model Y will be offered in several configurations:

  • Rear-Wheel Drive Model: 289 miles of range, 0-60mph in 5.9 seconds, and a top speed of 124mph.
  • Long Range All-Wheel Drive: 342 miles of range, 0-60mph in 4.3 seconds, and a top speed of 124mph.

Tesla has not yet released a Performance model, though based on previous releases, this variant is expected to arrive around six months after the initial launch.

The refreshed 2025 Tesla Model Y is shaping up to be an impressive addition to Tesla’s lineup, with exciting updates in design, technology, performance, and comfort. With deliveries set to begin in China in May 2025, UK cars will hopefully happen soon after, we can’t wait to see how the world’s best-selling electric car evolves!
