BYD – short for ‘Build Your Dreams’, a high-tech international company founded in February 1985 with the main aim to build a better life for all through technological innovations. One avenue is through transport ie cars. They have experienced huge growth and are now entering the top 10 pf the world’s largest car brands – that’s huge! They are already here in the UK with the BYD Atto 3, a small SUV with their 3rd generation and all new e-Platform 3.0 designed for pure electric vehicles. The BYD Seal
Things just moved up for BYD with their latest product offering, the BYD Seal. This is a larger size family saloon and is entering the C Segment ge Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, Mercedes C Class and of course the Tesla Model 3 2024 Highland. So is the new BYD Seal something worth looking at? It’s going to be a winner in our opinion, especially if you want an alternative to the Tesla Model 3.
The BYD Seal has the style, build quality, ride, comfort, specification and performance (0-62 mph in just 3.8 seconds and 354 mile range (WLTP)) to really shake up this segment. Again the Seal has a 5 star Euro NCAP safety rating. It is 4800mm in length and 2150mm wide (to wing mirrors).
The car has a digital driver’s display as well as a 15.6-inch multimedia touchscreen that rotates…..yes….landscape of portrait position! Superb for Sat Nav maps when you think about it. Panoramic roof is standard (like Tesla), a ‘driving theatre’ ie a HIFI Dynaudio Premium Sound system with 12 speakers for superb acoustic sounds. The car also has very impressive integrated sports seats with a vegan leather – the finish screams premium German upgrades! The car also has the ‘Funk’ ie trunk in the front with 53 litres of storage and a large 400 litres in the rear.
Lots of safety equipment is standard such as Forward Collision Warning, Rear Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking, plus Lane Keep Assistance, Lane Change Assist and Emergency Lane Keep.
Interestingly the batteries do not have cobalt and BYD claims this new revolutionary 'Blade Battery' will offer new levels of safety, durability and performance. This also offers increased battery space utilization, a higher level of safety and excellent thermal stability.
There will be 2 derivatives available at launch :
- 230kw Design 4 dr auto (single motor / rear wheel drive)
- 390kw Excellence AWD 4dr auto (dual motor).
This new electric saloon is going to be a major seller in the UK market, we also know that a SUV version (Seal U) will be coming to the UK market in the near future.
